About Friedrichshain

Friedrichshain is East Berlin's most dynamic district, younger, more tech-driven, and slightly less gentrified than Prenzlauer Berg. The neighborhood combines GDR-era Plattenbau housing with restored Altbau, the famous East Side Gallery (1.3 km of preserved Berlin Wall murals), and Berlin's tech-startup heart along the Mediaspree corridor where Zalando, Mercedes-Benz Digital, Native Instruments, and dozens of mid-sized tech firms cluster. Residential prices run EUR 6,000-9,500 per square metre with gross yields of 3.2-4.2%, somewhat better than Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg. The district hosts RAW Gelande (a former rail-yard turned alternative culture compound) and Volkspark Friedrichshain, the second-largest green space in inner Berlin. Lifestyle is young, tech-leaning, and night-active. Strong transit via S-Bahn ring, U5, and Ostbahnhof regional station.
